Christmas Fast Approaching

Hello everyone,

Like the title says, Christmas is coming up quickly (for those of us who celebrate this holiday.) And I can say, I'm going to be glad when the season is over. Haha. As fun as it is looking for gifts for people and getting to check out all the cute little shops in my town for gifts, I just want to be able to relax again and not have the countdown counting down in the back of my head how much time I have left and how many gifts I have left to buy for people!! ^^;

But, I can say that I reduced my stress on that aspect today since I completed/bought gifts for my mom and sister.

Since I'm learning how to sew and all that jazz, my mom requested potholders for Christmas this year. I recently got back my sewing machine from the studio. Unfortunately, when I started the potholders last night, I screwed up while sewing them. Luckily I had a small pair of scissors to fix my mistake since I didn't have my seam ripper with me (because I was stupid and left an entire bag of my stuff at the studio, which I got back today.) Long and behold, my seam ripper wasn't in my bag of stuff I got back, so I need to buy another one. Though I had to switch to my zigzag foot, so I'm glad I did go anyway. Also, while I was out, I went to a little craft shop and bought a cute little Christmas tree ornament to go with the potholders.
So, needless to say on that front. It was an experience. I learned a few things and once I finished the first holder, the second one finished with barely any problems and was sewn together in less then 10 minutes
I will probably be making a pair for Adam's mom for Christmas~ The funny thing is that the fabric I used for the potholders was a pair of Adam's pajama pants. There was a rip at the seam, on one of the inner legs. So all I had to buy was the batting for the inside and with my Fabricville memebership card, I got a $2 discount on the material. So I paid less then $4 for about 2 arms length for the batting. So a cheap little gift.

I got my sister stuff from the same craft store that I got my mom's little snowman ornament. My sister loves winter, Christmas and all that stuff. Last year I bought her a crystal snowflake, this year I decided to continue with the theme and got her another snowflake. Also, my sister is a workaholic and doesn't take care of herself at all. In that thought, I bought her some hand made/crafted lavender and lemon bath salts.
And that's all the family gifts I've gotten at the moment. I still have to buy for my dad, grandfather and family friend. But they are easy to buy for since I know what I'm getting them!! :D

I'm not posting any friends gifts because I know some of them read my blog and that would be cheating. Haha.

Hope everything well is going with you.

What do you think of my gifts? Good or bad?

Sewing, Costumes, Conventions

Hey everyone,

It's been awhile. About 5 months, awhile. I haven't forgotten about this blog. I'm frequently on blogger but I don't really have a whole lot to talk about since life in the Canadian Maritimes is normally pretty slow.

Let's see. I'm still alive! LOL So that is a good thing. Con season is over! :C It's really sad how time goes by so fast these days. Adults don't kid around when they say time goes faster when you age. It's all true. With the conventon season being over. I guess I have a lot to report on.

Harbour Con-Fusion 2012. It was held at the Holiday Inn Express in Saint John, New Brunswick. It was a first time convention. It was a good convention. I did my first artist alley, with Adam and Jess. Adam and I didn't break even at the con, which blowed but there was a lot of behind the scenes drama with the convention staff that definitely interfered with who came and who didn't. So the sales didn't even come close to breaking even which hurt

Hal-con 2012. It was held at the World Trade Convention Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Being it's third year, it was a big show. Adam and I did the artist alley again, along with Jess sharing the table. It was a great turn out for being our first "big" convention at the AA. We made over $115 in profit. It was a lot more then either of us expected to make~ I entered the costume contest for the first time with my first completely self-made cosplay of Minako Aino from Sailor Moon.
I made the costume at my sewing classes that I took over the summer/fall months. My next project is Anata no Oto Ranka Lee. Which I will be making in my next sewing class that starts back up in January of 2013. I'm excited to make a new costume!! :D It's so much fun, even if it was frustrating. But I used possibly one of the worst fabrics to start off on! Minako's costume was made out of lyrca, which is essentially stretchy swim suit material. :P The apron wasn't as hard since it was a stretchy material. But as my teacher said, now that I started off on a harder fabric, I'll find most other fabrics easy to work with. Aha~

My next project, is actually making pot holders for my mom for Christmas since she wants new ones because hers are old and stained and gross. But from the tutorials online, they look super easy to make. C: And I already have the fabric since a pair of Adam's pajama pants ripped, so I'm recycling! ;D I just need to get the heat resistant quilt batting to put in the middle and the I can start sewing away.

I don't want to bore you guys with a butt-load of talking. So I'll hopefully do another post in the near future. Since I till have a lot to catch you guys up on~

Cafe Blogging~

Hey guys,

I know it's been forever and a half since I posted a new blog and I am very sorry for that! D: I don't mean to neglect this blog. I swear! And I refuse to close down this blog! >//o//< So I will try harder to blog more!

Moving on~ I have a lot to talk about! C: So since my last blog post, I have graduated college!! WOOHOO! :D I'm excited to be done~ It feels really good! :3 Not have to be stressed out about school work, projects, stupid teachers, annoying classmates. It. Is. Fabulous. Though, with graduating comes REAL ADULT LIFE. And yes, it is as scary as it sounds! xD;; Now that I've graduated, it's time to get a real job! HUZZAH!

In regards of the "real job", I have one potentially~ Aha, let me explain! Adam and I met a woman named Wanda, she is opening a new store on in the downtown Truro area. And she is going to be making all the clothes for the store, upstairs in her studio. Long story short, Adam is doing some graphic design work for her business and in return, I get all the free sewing classes I want and within a couple months if I catch onto the sewing really quick (which so far, I have) then she is going to hire me full-time to be a sewer in the studio and also teach me the trick of the trade for making your own business! Like everything from pattern drafting/making, to sewing, to designing, to detailing and everything like that!! Can we say "OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFE TIME" right here?! :D Best part, she is helping me with my first cosplay, she even gave me some fabric towards cafe maid Minako! <3 Also, she likes the lolita fashion~ <3 <3 So I'll hopefully be making my own dresses by this time next year!

So, not only will I have my art commissions, I will be able to do some sewing commissions also~ So in that regards, I'm doing really well and I have lots of time to learn and soak in the sewing knowledge! :D

Harbour Con-Fusion is coming at the end of the month! I will be selling artwork in the Artist Alley, along with Hal-con at the end of October! So I'll try and to do an update after the convention! For this con at the end of the month, I'm just going to be wearing casual lolita.

This is the update for now~ Hope you're all doing well! Please check out all my websites down below and remember, my art commissions are open!

BIG UPDATE

Hello everyone,

I know I haven't blogged in awhile! I'm sorry, I've been busy with school since it coming to close in a few weeks. I've done a few short posts but I haven't really been blogging much this year and I don't want this blog to turn into all my other blogs and be dropped after a couple months of posting. So I'll try my best to blog more often!!

As you can see, I've updated the blog background, text colours and I've made a new head banner since I think the other one was starting to get old to look at. I think it's appropriate to have a new look since it is now spring and everything is starting to be a little brighter and slowly getting warmer.

So a big thing that has been going on right now in my life is that I've started up doing commissions! Now the last link I posted is old now. I've done a lot of updating to how I do my commissions and it's only updated on my deviantArt journal. So I'm going to give you guys the link to my journal so anything that is updated with be done there and you can see it. Click here! ----->  Commission Information
I've done 2 commissions already~ And I would love to do another one as soon as possible! Since I'm broke! Ahaha OTL. But also, I've drawn armor and weapons for the commissions, something I don't normally do. So it's a learning experience for me too! Which is awesome! :D
I'm also going to be freshening up my resume and start handing them out soon since I'd like to have a par-time job this year while starting to get myself geared up to do commissions/art prints/comic work.

As I said in the beginning school has been busy. But where as it coming to a close things are looking up. I'm really excited to be graduating this year! I feel that I'm ready to take on the world! C: I'm taking the illustration and comic artist route. I've even started doing research on my possible first idea of a first REAL comic!
With all this sudden inspiration to do well, I'm sure you're wondering where I've gotten all this ambition? A few days ago Animediafest at the college just finished. My business class and I worked really hard to make this year awesome and I think it went really well. Thursday was the best day for me because we had a big panel in the morning with 6 illustrators/comic artists/writer which was really fun to watch and I got to talk to some people who are in the industry,
But the best was by far, Mark Oakley, whom I invited to the festival during Hal-con. I learned sooo much from him!! His panel was fantastic! And everything he said inspired me so much. Inspired me to work really hard for this dream of mine, work all the time on my art, travel the world, go through ups and downs, be involved in in my community, and just keep at it! It was unbelievable how great he was. I wish I lived in Wolfville so I could talk to him more. But I hope to email him and talk to him some more about questions I have.

SUPER AWESOME NEWS! I'm going to be doing TWO artist alleys this year at conventions! First it's going to be at a new convention in Saint John, New Brunswick. It is called Harbor Con-Fusion. I don't expect to get a lot of money at this con but it's going to be good practice for the second convention which is Hal-con!! I've already started on a few art prints~ All I'm gonna say is that it's comic related! :3

Moving onto... I'm buying new lolita soon!! :D If ya wanna see the outfit I'm buying here is the link (which is my tumblr blog) -----> Lolita I'm getting! I'm getting the black dress and the white socks! It's going to be my spoil for myself since I haven't bought new lolita in almost two years for myself~ And I plan on getting accessories and a petticoat commissioned from some friends of mine!

Anyway guys, that is pretty much it on my front. I should be doing homework right now but I totally felt like updating my blog. 8D;; LOL. So I will talk to you later~

New Apartment!!

Hello everyone~

How have you guys been? It's been a very busy past week for Adam and I! We got the new renovated apartment that was down the hall from us. As of the weekend, we have been sleeping over in the new apartment. And we like 99% done moving.

Saturday was the most stressful for me. We moved all the big furniture over and other stuff. Thankfully our friend Meghan came over to help because sadly, I was overwhelmed with everything since stuff was EVERYWHERE! And, with the move, I found out that all of that kind of mess hikes up my anxiety a shit ton. So Saturday was pretty bad for me. But, I got through it~

As of right now, the bedroom is finished being put away and organized, the kitchen is finished and the bathroom is 70% done. I just finished doing a lot of it just a couple minutes ago. The last of the big move is putting stuff away in the living room and computer room. It's going to be really nice when everything is done! And I'll be for sure posting pictures and doing a vlog so you all can see it.

Of course, with moving at this time of the year, school hasn't been very nice to me! It's hard trying to move and work on school work. Especially when the computer room is currently cluttered full of unorganized stuff. :/ Thankfully, the weekend is almost here so we can finish it all~

By the way, I have a tumblr, which I am addicted to~ LOL So feel free to take a look and follow! :3

Hai!~

Heya everyone!!

So today, I have to say. S.O.P.A and PIPA sucks ass!! I signed Google's petition yesterday!! The main reason I am so against it, is because with me wanting to become a freelance digital illustrator or comic artist, the best way to promote myself is through the internet. If this bill goes through, my chances of getting noticed the artist world is going to be very small! :c Which isn't good.
Of course, I am against it for the obviously awesome websites like facebook (to keep me updated with my friends and famjam), tumblr (yes I got a tumblr, I talk about it in 2 seconds), deviantArt (do I even need to explain this one?), and etc. etc.

Moving on. Yes! I got a tumblr. I am now an addict to it! I am half ashamed to say! What do I blog on my tumblr? Mainly anime gifs/pictures, j-fashion images, my little pony: friendship is magic, cosplay and really random stuff. What is the link, you ask?
http://horu-chan.tumblr.com/

School is going good. Keeping busy as always. Might upload some of the animations I've done this year on the weekend. My animation youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/user/HollyEAnimation So feel free to watch some of the animations I did last year that are posted! C:

Animes I'm currently watching are only 2. Sailor Moon Sailor Stars and Morestu Uchuu Kaizoku (it's about SPACE PIRATES!! 8D) Epic, right?

Makeup! It's made me broke again...

Hello again people!
Another day, another post! So as I said yesterday, I went makeup shopping with my friend Meghan. My budget was only up to $40 and I ended up getting $60 worth of stuff. =______=;; So I'm now broke again.... -cries forever- But, we did find some good stuff for me. And since I don't wear makeup that often, it should last me awhile. So in the long run, it'll be worth it.

Anywho, onto what I bought~
Listing off everything I got from back left to right and so forth:
- Garnier Skin Naturals Fresh eye make-up remover
 - Aveeno Daily Skin Moisturizer
- CoverGirl TruBlend Microminerals Finishing Powder (Already had before)
- L'Oreal True Match liquid foundation (Just bought before today)
- ANNABELLE Bling me out eye shadows
- CoverGirl Blush
- Basic Blusher brush
- She's G.A.L fluffy eye shadow brush
- MILANI Cystal Gloss, Whisper

So, I got quite a bit today. So I guess I can't really complain about the price. Though, I do have to say, the case that the ANNABELLE Bling me out eye shadows came in is super cute!

The next two pictures are of the colours of the eye shadows and a close up in my lip gloss.

So, I'm happy with what I got. Now all I need is a proper make-up bag but I'm not too concerned about that at the moment. If anyone has used any of the things I bought, I'd like to know what you think of the product! :) So please feel free to leave a comment below

New Clothes~~

This is a short post~
But I felt the need to share the buys I got today while I was at the mall! c:

I bought this really cute new top at Suzy Shier's. Originally $25. Got it for $14

I also bought a new dress today at Bluenotes~ It was $23. It's a really nice dress for summer, even though it's black, it's very light. Please excuse the awful lighting and crappy shot of me! ><;;

But yeah, those are my finds for today! I'm really happy with what I found considering last week I went but I didn't find anything. I actually looked at the dress I bought but I had to get Adam's opinion on which dress I should've got. There was 3 dresses; A plain black, a plain red and then this one.

Tomorrow, I'm going make-up shopping with my friend Meghan since I don't wear make-up that often (really at all) but I want try and start wearing more. I'm trying to get my skin to clear up, I don't get much acne but I do have really dry skin between my eyebrows and along my forehead! D: If anyone knows any good products for that or any natural recipes for facials or along those lines, please let me know.
